Upcoming events
LVF Education
- July KS: LVF’s next knowledge session will be taking place this Thursday 2 July, on Science and corporate defences in the courtroom. This Knowledge Session will focus on how scientific evidence is used by claimants in strategic climate litigation and on the types of corporate defences the courts have grappled with in these cases. Further details on the session here.
- July members-only webinar: We will be hosting a webinar on 23 July with Eoin Jackson, PhD candidate and expert in climate litigation. Eoin will examine how cases currently before and emerging from the Irish courts could provide a preview of where common law jurisdictions are now headed when it comes to adjudicating climate cases. From challenges to the proliferation of data centres, to cases targeting the State’s failure to implement binding emissions targets, to the broader and still-evolving question of how climate considerations are integrated or prioritised within public decision-making, Irish courts are at the coalface of some of the thorniest climate issues of our time. As climate obligations continue to shift from political aspiration to justiciable duty, this talk will show how Ireland’s experience offers an early and instructive map of the terrain that other common law courts will soon be navigating. - Field Trip: We are very excited to announce that we will be going to Knepp Estate on Sunday 27 September! Watch this space for more information to sign up.
- Legal Careers Event: We are organising our second Legal Careers event this year! It will be a full day on Saturday 10 October at Kings College London with practical workshops. Please note capacity will be limited to keep an eye out for a short application form which will be shared during July.

Sarah Goy joins LVF’s Stewardship Committee
We are so excited to welcome Sarah to the LVF Stewardship Committee!
Sarah is a trainee solicitor at A&O Shearman, currently sat in its Insurance and M&A team. Prior to this, she was an assistant editor of “The Law of Net Zero and Nature Positive”, the first comprehensive overview of net-zero laws in England and Wales. She has also completed pro-bono work with ClientEarth’s Law, Finance and Systems Change research clinic.
Sarah says: “LVF has been a wonderful community and source of inspiration, knowledge and perspective over the past few years, and it has deepened my passion for climate justice. I am very excited to join the committee and contribute to furthering its mission!”

June Knowledge Session: Using requests for information to hold governments to account on pollution and nature
On 4 June, we hosted a knowledge session on using freedom of information requests for environmental benefit led by LVF member Nia Simeonova. We discussed multidisciplinary perspectives on the use of requests for information to work towards increasing transparency and accountability surrounding environmental harm.
The panelists shared top tips and success stories, the wider impact that disclosure of environmental information and the pitfalls when requesting information. We also reflected on how journalists and legal professionals can help each other.

- 15 July, 6-7.15PM: Book Launch of Oxford’s Handbook of Private Law and Climate Change (London and online): This event marks the launch of a landmark Oxford Handbook exploring whether and how private law can play a meaningful role in addressing the climate crisis. The evening features opening remarks from Lord Sales, Deputy President of the UK Supreme Court.Register here.
- 26 July, 3-3:30PM: ELI Monthly Climate Change briefing (online): The Environmental Law Institute’s free monthly webinar series runs through to the end of July. Register here to attend.
- Until November 2026: Gathering Around at the Tate (London): this exhibition highlights the connection between environmental and social justice, inviting us to reimagine our relationships with the natural world and each other. More information here.
