About the LVF blog
LVF has a blog section on its website which features posts on LVF events, such as knowledge sessions and community outings, and commentary on topics of interest relating to the intersection between law and the climate and ecological crises.
The blog is meant to be a space for our members to express, share and develop their thoughts and feelings about happenings and developments that relate to environmental and climate law. We hope that members and others reading the blog will gain new knowledge and ways of thinking, and feel a sense of community. We would also like to give an opportunity for our members to use the LVF platform to share their own content and ideas.
We invite all members to submit blog posts on our events or other pertinent topics. If you’d like to volunteer to write about an event please email LVF at legalvoicesforthefuture@gmail.com before writing the post and we will let you know if someone has already volunteered to write about that event and/or we think the topic is suitable for our website.
This document provides some pointers on writing blog posts.
Writing about LVF events
- We have included our preferences for general tone and style below, but otherwise we are not prescriptive about the format of the blog. Feel free to do a detailed write-up covering the session, or write in more detail about a topic that came up during the session which interests you.
- Please send us the draft blog post about the event within two weeks of the event. We will aim to respond with our comments within three days and would appreciate if you can make any edits within a week so that we can upload the post in a timely fashion.
Writing on a topic
- The broad objective is to educate junior legal professionals about the chosen topic.
- We welcome you to propose any topic relevant to LVF and/or climate and environmental law.
- The topic should be relevant to UK and/or global developments
;and be of interest to and accessible to LVF members. - Occasionally, members ask us if we have any topic we would like them to write about. While some topics will come up from time to time and we may indicate these topics in our newsletter, here are some potential topics / areas you could consider writing about:
- Climate litigation cases;
- Nature-based climate investments;
- Climate change or biodiversity COPs;
- Controversial planning decisions and cases;
- Environmental protests and legal restrictions;
- Sustainability disclosure requirements;
- Climate transition planning requirements;
- Rights of nature legislation around the globe; or
- Biodiversity net gain legislation.
- These suggestions will hopefully help you to brainstorm topics and kickstart your writing journey.
- After you submit a draft to us, we aim to review with our comments within a week. You can then edit the post, ideally within two weeks. We expect one round of editing, and no more than two.
General tone and style
- Authors should use a formal tone, though blog posts can include personal reflections. An example of a reflective piece on one of LVF’s community outings is: ‘Reflections on soil’.
- Language should be non-discriminatory.
- Please include citations if you are writing a piece based on law – these should be hyperlinked within the blog post or added as an endnote.
- Blog posts should be between 700 to 1,500 words.
- Consider the use of headings and/or images to break up the blog posts into different sections.
- Where you use an image that is not your own, please either use a stock image (for example, we use Pexels or Unsplash) or credit the image owner.
- There should be a short line or two describing the experience and/or expertise of the author at the start of the article, along with a headshot for the author.
